How to Apply

1. Make sure your project is eligible for funding.
The Collaborative is committed to supporting a diverse range of on the land activities in the NWT, but not all organizations and projects are eligible to receive funding. Visit the Eligibility page to determine if your organization is eligible and if your project fits with the objectives of the Collaborative.

2. Complete an application.
The application is available here. The application asks you to describe your community, the project, and the activities that you would like to do. It also includes a budget showing the money/resources you need and how they will be spent/used. If you have questions about the application, please contact the Community Advisor for your region.

3. Submit your application.
Completed applications should be sent to the Community Advisor for your region on or before the due date. If the Community Advisor position for your region is vacant, please send your application to the Collaborative Administrator.

Application Review & Evaluation
Once your application is submitted, it is reviewed by the Community Advisor for your region to ensure it is complete and meets the eligibility criteria. Your Community Advisor may contact you if they have additional questions.

All eligible applications are then forwarded to the Collaborative Administrator, who distributes them to a different Community Advisor for a second review. Applications are evaluated using a common review tool.

Recommendations
During face-to-face meetings in December:
  • Community Advisors collectively discuss the eligible applications they were tasked with evaluating;
  • Community Advisors present a list of recommended projects to the Funding Partners; and
  • Funding Partners meet to determine the final list of approved grant recipients by consensus.

Notifications
Successful applicants are notified in December. The Collaborative provides support as needed to grant recipients throughout the year to ensure the successful implementation and evaluation of projects.

In situations where the Collaborative is unable to provide financial support to a project, we will look for other ways to help you meet your project goals.
Grantee Responsibilities
If you receive a grant, we will ask the following things of you and your community:

  1. Financial Responsibility. You are responsible for using the funds and resources as planned and providing documentation. We will provide you with a simple template and ask you to keep receipts.
  2. Stories, Pictures, and Evaluation. Tell us what happened! We want to know what was important to your community about this project, what worked well, and what could have been improved. This information will help us to better support you and others in the future.
  3. Sharing with Others. You likely learned things through the process of planning, implementing, and evaluating your project that will benefit other projects. We will work with you to share your stories with others.
  4. Hosting Visitors. You may be asked to help host us in your community at no cost to you. Community visits are part of building better relationships and a deeper understanding of how to best support community initiatives.

Funder Responsibilities
These are the things you can expect from us:

  1. Respectful Engagement. We commit to being respectful and mindful and to communicating clearly when working with you, your organization, and community.
  2. Information Sharing. We commit to trying our best to support your project, including through the sharing of information about other grant opportunities or resources that could benefit your work. With your permission, we will share the stories of your work to the public and other potential supporters.
  3. Listening. We commit to listening to your ideas, questions, comments, concerns, and challenges. We also commit to answering your questions.
  4. Accessibility. We commit to being available to discuss your project ideas, answering any questions you may have, and providing continued support through the application, project, and reporting processes.
